The problem started on June 13, when Hubbles payload computer system, which controls and coordinates the orbiting spacecrafts science instruments, stopped working. Hubbles main computer system took action by putting all science instruments into safe mode, and its been that method ever since. “The Hubble operations group is working to resolve the payload computer problem onboard the Hubble Space Telescope,” discussed a NASA spokesperson in an emailed statement. If this happens, “a number of days will be required to evaluate the computer efficiency and restore typical science operations,” according to NASA.
