Credit where its due: Greys Anatomy delivered in a huge way with its Season 17 ending, dispensing an hour that was at turns heartbreaking and boosting and funny as hell. And though it took us back to the shore, it wasnt, you know, that beach. Keep reading, and well zip through the calendar pages (and scenes) that took us in an hour from August 2020 to April 2021.
After an April 2021 introduction in which we saw Meredith dropping flower petals on the beach, we flashed back by 8 months to find Jo not just sick and exhausted of dealing with Levi and Taryn– “Well stop talking, please do not evict us!”– however keeping in mind that, thanks to Alex, “technically Im abundant.” So she was going to offer her shares in Grey Sloan, employ a badass lawyer, win custody of Luna and move into a place where she does not have to listen to residents blather. At the hospital, as Mer started her very first day as residency director, she reconnected with Cormac, who split that she couldve just stated no when he d asked her out. “You didnt need to lose consciousness and invest two months in the hospital simply to prevent turning me down.” Cute with a good side of triggers flying. Close by, an assisted-living nurse called Gerlie was admitted with COVID. (She d get more crucial as the episode went on.) And later at Mers, Winstons grandma and Maggies father brought their wedding event to a halt. They wanted a huge to-do, with more than 10 people in presence. So the would-be-weds accepted hold off. (Maggies priceless reaction above.).
OCTOBER 2020
When he planned to do it at a get-together at Mers, the minute was stolen by Owen, who arranged for it to snow for Teddy, got down on one knee and re-proposed to her. Bailey saw it as Grey “reproducing an army of little yous,” but Mer had a point with which her pal could not argue: “If this was me or your mother, you would be screaming from the rooftops” to get the double lung transplant. Following a lovely ceremony– and wow, did Kelly McCreary define the word “radiant”– Mer got a text: She and Teddy had to leave, due to the fact that donor lungs had actually come in for Gerlie. Back on the beach, Zola reassured Link, “Youve got this,” before they and Mers other kids revealed to Amelia that they all had engagement rings for her. As the episode drew to a close, Bailey had arranged for a clap-out to welcome Mer when she left the O.R. And while waiting for Gerlie to wake up– she did, by the way– Grey texted Cristina, who was about to perform the very same procedure on a client of her own.
As Christmas Eve rolled around, Cormac presented Mer with a bottle of whiskey. “Its open and half empty,” she kept in mind. “Short notice,” he responded. At last they had a beverage together, albeit one in the doctors lounge. In other places in the healthcare facility, Link revealed to Jo that he d gotten a ring with which to propose to Amelia. Really, make that four rings. “You are actually holding the value of 3 of my loft in your hands,” Jo marveled. But when he meant to do it at a get-together at Mers, the moment was stolen by Owen, who arranged for it to snow for Teddy, got down on one knee and re-proposed to her. JANUARY 2021
Later, Mer got the residents aid in pitching Bailey on the concept of a double lung transplant for Gerlie. Argh, wept Miranda (basically). Grey was expected to teach them. “This is me teaching them!” she said– teaching them to advocate for post-COVID patients. Bailey saw it as Grey “breeding an army of little yous,” but Mer had a point with which her good friend couldnt argue: “If this was me or your mom, you would be screaming from the rooftops” to get the double lung transplant. At last, Bailey relented. Gerlie could go on the donor list. “youre starting back grand rounds,” Bailey included, “or youre fired.”.
A month later, Gerlie was being released. She had actually even made it as far as the curb, where she d had a beautiful, truthful conversation with fellow COVID survivor Mer, prior to collapsing and being readmitted. At a virtual conference, Amelia admitted that even when she mored than happy, it didnt last long; her thoughts were simply too dark. Link wasnt like that, she kept in mind. “Sometimes theres a part of me that dreams he got it. I feel lonely in it.” At Grey Sloan, upon finding out that a household had an interest in cultivating to adopt Luna, Jo drifted a wild idea to Link: What if he cultivated Luna, just on paper, you understand, to get her off the market? Though worried about Amelias reaction, he agreed– so long as he might alter the infants name to Hildegard. And how did Amelia respond? Erm, not excellent. What took place, she questioned, if Jo didnt come through and embrace Luna? “Then I think well have a child,” split Link. “Bad joke.” In the end, Amelia stated that she was fine in a way that showed quite plainly that she wasnt. And prior to we skedaddled to October, Teddy tested positive for COVID.
In our last time period, we found that Mer had actually been dropping petals since Maggie and Winston were having their “I do”- over on the beach. Following a beautiful event– and wow, did Kelly McCreary specify the word “glowing”– Mer got a text: She and Teddy had to leave, because donor lungs had actually come in for Gerlie. As the cheerful reception went on, Grey and Altman saved Gerlie. Jo was FaceTiming with Jackson … whose location she had moved into with Luna! “Welcome house, Jo,” he said. Back on the beach, Zola reassured Link, “Youve got this,” prior to they and Mers other kids revealed to Amelia that they all had engagement rings for her. Would she marry him? Oh dear. No. No, she would not. (Links face when he later appeared on Jos doorstep kinda states everything, eh?) As the episode drew to a close, Bailey had set up for a clap-out to welcome Mer when she left the O.R. And while awaiting Gerlie to awaken– she did, by the way– Grey texted Cristina, who was about to carry out the very same treatment on a patient of her own. “Dont forget who did it initially,” joked Mer.
