Gender Equality Begins At Home

When, in the next session, the leaders asked the kids to share what they had gained from the previous session and how they had actually helped their sis or moms, Akshays answer was exceptional. Akshay shared that as he does not have a sibling, he had observed his mother doing all the domestic chores, even if she was tired after operating in the farm. It was only his mom who carried all the obligation of domestic and farm tasks, with no help from his grandma.

The team guarantees that the kids unlearn this notion and consider all work equal, give respect to the work done by their moms and siblings and if possible contribute to the work.

Akshay began to assist his mom due to the fact that he had actually found out in school that all work is equal and must be done by everyone, and it is not simply a females task to do everything. His grandma, and even neighbours questioned him and even mocked him for this, but Akshay told that there is no such thing as a females work or a males work, and he wanted to assist his mother.

Akshay is grateful to our leaders, for what he learnt, that has impacted his mothers life favorably, and the animators were entrusted to the sensation that their session was indeed a success.

Akshay started to help his mother since he had discovered in school that all work is equal and should be done by everybody, and it is not simply a womans task to do whatever. His grandmother, and even neighbours questioned him and even buffooned him for this, but Akshay informed that there is no such thing as a females work or a mans work, and he wanted to assist his mother. While he was a little ashamed by this, he continued to do the work, and the joy that he saw on his moms face that her workload had ended up being less, motivated him to continue doing the tasks he had set himself.

Akshay is a 13-year old kid studying in G.P school, in Beed district. His household includes his moms and dads, grandparents and a younger bro. As part of the Gender Sensitisation Program, the our team conducts regular sessions with the children, including one on “gender based department of labour”. In this session, the team had covered that the idea of gender-based department of labour in itself is acceptable nor not proper and must be unlearnt, due to the fact that the responsibility of work, be it inside the house or exterior can be taken on by any individual, irrespective of their gender. This is talked about in the session, as sometimes the gender-based department of work is the basis of discrimination in between a kid and a lady. The group ensures that the children unlearn this idea and consider all work equal, provide respect to the work done by their siblings and moms and if possible contribute to the work.
