Charlene for a short while stopped briefly proceedings to state: “Earlier in the program we were talking about the news that five killers are set to have their sentences examined and we just wish to clarify that it was Arthur Labinjo-Hughes father Tom Hughes and his sweetheart Emma Tustin who are appealing their sentences after they were imprisoned for his death.” Tustin and Hughes, who killed six-year-old Arthur Labinjo-Hughes in June 2020, likewise had their sentences reviewed on Wednesday. Arthur suffered an unsurvivable brain injury while in the sole care of Tustin, who was jailed for life with a minimum term of 29 years. Tustin and Arthurs daddy, Hughes, who was sentenced to 21 years for manslaughter, appealed versus the length of their sentences which are also being challenged as being unduly lenient. Mary Prior QC, for Tustin, said the sentencing judge took a “appropriate and reasonable method in this really hard case”. Bernard Richmond QC, for Hughes, argued that a judge fell under error and was nearly “treble counting” when computing his sentence.
