Willy Adames: I feel like I got my self-confidence back when I went to Milwaukee. Adames: Whenever I was out of the Trop, I feel like I was able to recognize the spin of the ball. Adames: I got the self-confidence back by being myself at the plate. Adames: We have been playing truly good baseball and I believe we have to continue to do that– just to continue to have fun, to take benefit of what the other team gives us. Adames: It was a fantastic time.

Shortstop Willy Adames is having a dream season given that he was obtained from the Rays in a trade on May 21. He already is seventh on the team in WAR (2.0 ).
Prior to the All-Star break, MLB.com overtook Adames to discuss his surge with the Brewers and his time with the Rays.
MLB.com: You left to a slow start with the Rays. Now you are having a dream season considering that you were traded to the Brewers in late May. Why is that the case?
Willy Adames: I feel like I got my self-confidence back when I went to Milwaukee. I feel like that is a part of why there is a big change. Its a big difference.
MLB.com: When you run out The Trop, what advantages do you have when you are in the batters box?
Adames: Whenever I was out of the Trop, I feel like I was able to acknowledge the spin of the ball. When you are like 0-for-20, you are attempting to make a modification. Thats why I was trying to make a lot of changes and just try to figure out a method to be effective at The Trop.
MLB.com: Was it the lighting at The Trop?
Adames: It was the lighting, I believe. In 2018, I was great when they had the old lights. Then they altered the lights. I do not understand what they did to it; it was a tough time for me to get. There were a couple of guys complaining about that, too. I was not the only one.
MLB.com: You said you got your confidence back in Milwaukee. How did you get it back?
Adames: I got the self-confidence back by being myself at the plate. Everybody felt that way when I came here. It was just a terrific ambiance when I got here.
MLB.com: Everybody is speaking about you as one of the leaders on this group. How did that happened?
Adames: I do not know, man. I simply attempt to be an excellent teammate– just try to help whomever I can help. I feel thats the way you need to play this video game– simply having enjoyable.
MLB.com: What is it like playing with the Brewers and their fans?
Adames: Amazing. That felt like the playoffs. It feels excellent to play for a lot of fans like that.
MLB.com: You were born and raised in the Dominican Republic. How did you get used to the United States so well? You are the go-to man with the media.
Adames: [Chuckling] It was difficult in the beginning. Im still finding out the language. I didnt understand any English [when I pertained to this country] It was difficult for me to discover the language. I had to get used to a various nation, different rules, different culture.
I have to thank my teammates in the Minor Leagues. I have to thank Kean Wong [Brewers teammate Kolten Wongs bro] and Andrew Velazquez, since I dealt with them for like two or three years. They were the men that assisted me out the most with language and the culture– simply to get utilized to being here. I wished to find out the language. The only possibility I got was living with them. They spoke English. For me to be around them every day was the best thing to discover the language. … If I wished to be able to express myself, I need to learn the language.
MLB.com: Whats ahead for the Brewers? You guys are doing well.
Adames: We have been playing really good baseball and I think we need to continue to do that– simply to continue to have a good time, to take benefit of what the other team offers us. If everyone remains healthy and we keep the people on the field, I believe well be great. We have a quite great team.
MLB.com: Do you want to remain in Milwaukee for a long time?
Adames: I truly like it here. I feel really comfortable. The fans are fantastic. The coaching staff and the group of gamers we have are excellent guys.
MLB.com: How does your household feel about Milwaukee?
Adames: They have not been there. That series against the Cubs, it made me feel I was living the dream. Thats how I felt playing versus the Cubs.
MLB.com: What did you think of your time in Tampa?
Adames: It was a good time. It was a learning process the very first couple of years. I need to thank them for the chance they offered me to bring me to the major leagues and play every day. I liked playing there. The fans were truly respectful, truly excellent. The company were remarkable.
MLB.com: No bitterness at all?
Adames: No, no, no. Im really grateful for the opportunity. Im always going to be grateful.
MLB.com: When you were traded, what was your first reaction?
Adames: I was shocked. I was coming to a new group, however a couple of guys I understood here kind of like relaxed me down. That made me feel excellent.
MLB.com: Who did you talk to?
They informed me I would be good here. It was unfortunate, however I was delighted because I knew I was going to get a new chance with a new group, new city, brand-new fans. Im grateful to be part of this group.
Adames: Im enjoying it. We are playing actually excellent. The first thing that video game to my head after I got traded was, I was going to a winning group, a team that is combating to go to the playoffs. Thats what I like. I love to win. I love to compete. Im delighted to be part of this team.
