ANAHEIM– Shohei Ohtani didnt win the Home Run Derby, but he still made a handful of Angels employees winners for his efforts.
Ohtani got $150,000 for participating in the Derby, but he distributed that to around 30 Angels support staffers to thank them for their work, sources stated. Ohtani distributed look at Friday to trainers, clubhouse workers and media relations staffers.
Ohtani obviously chose that he was going to use the cash in this method no matter what the outcome was. The Derby winner received $1 million, while the runner-up got $500,000.
Ohtani was removed in the preliminary after a remarkable battle versus the Washington Nationals Juan Soto. The 2 were connected after their policy swings and a one-minute tie-breaker round. It came down to a three-swing tie-breaker, and Soto won by hitting homers with all three of his swings.
The New York Mets Pete Alonso wound up winning the event, just as he had at the previous Derby in 2019.
