CLEVELAND, Ohio– Marc Ross worked in the front office of the New York Giants for 11 years. Prior to that, at age 27 he became the youngest college hunting director in the league with the Philadelphia Eagles. He knows what its like to construct a lineup. Theres no lineup in the NFL he likes better than that of the Cleveland Browns.Smart guy.Ross joined me on the Thursday edition of the Orange and Brown Talk Podcast to discuss his ranking and the different parts of the roster. I wrote before the Super Bowl in January that the Browns may be the third-best group in the league, and that was prior to they added John Johnson III, Jadeveon Clowney, Troy Hill, Anthony Walker and Takk McKinley in free firm and took Greg Newsome and Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah in the draft.I believe youll enjoy our 30-minute conversation. Here, in short, are my 5 factors why I believe ranking the Browns as the leagues No. 1 roster makes sense.1. No gaping holes: There might not be obvious standouts at linebacker and defensive tackle, however there seems a dependable four-man rotation (a minimum of) of veterans and young players at both areas. I dont think you d look at either spot and think a weak point there will destroy the season. All over else is strong.2. The offensive line: Five top-end people all returning from a year back– I dont know that any group in the league can match that. What a foundation.3. Skill position depth: The finest two-man running back combo in the league; 2 high-level receivers and another four that you can place on the field with some belief; and 3 tight ends for an offense that loves tight ends. Thats 11 ability position people that give Kevin Stefanski alternatives and make any single lack of a gamer not something that need to thwart the season.4. Good gamers still with benefit: Whether its veterans like Odell Beckham Jr. or Clowney; young veterans like Denzel Ward or Ronnie Harrison; or young players like Jedrick Wills, Grant Delpit, Greedy Williams and the current draft choices, theres talent where the group can prepare for a minimum level of great play. There are at least a few gamers on that list who might likewise make a significant jump this season. What if OBJ is better than weve ever seen? 5. The quarterback is great enough: Baker Mayfield does not need to be much better than Patrick Mahomes and Tom Brady for the Browns to be ranked ahead of Kansas City and Tampa Bay. He has to be in variety. He is.You can listen to previous podcasts and subscribe on Apple podcasts or on Spotify.Want to participate Football Insider?
